Silent Tours acknowledges the traditional owners of the Kimberley and pays respect to the elders, past, present and emerging as well as their ongoing relationship with the land.
Silent Tours takes a different approach to exploring the Kimberley.
On Silent Nature Tours there is no rush, we embrace Kimberley time.
Your guide Steve moved to the Kimberley 15 years ago and became fascinated by the landscape, trees and wildlife. As a regular bushwalker and camper he noticed that there was a calming effect from spending time in nature. Having a degree in health he decided to investigate if there was any scientific evidence or reason why people felt more relaxed after spending time outside in the bush. He discovered decades of evidence-based research showing that humans need to spend time outdoors to relax, rejuvenate, and stay healthy. Peoples intuitive attraction to bush walking, spending time in parks, reserves, natural surroundings, going camping, fishing or going for a swim at the beach is directly related to our intrinsic need to be immersed in nature.
He has since become a qualified nature guide and has combined his interest in photography and fourwheel driving in creating a business that helps others spend time in nature. Steve has been taking photos, mostly happy snaps, since he was child. He is happy to admit his photos still don't completely capture the beauty of the Kimberley.
He has extensive experience in working with East Kimberley communities and has attended multiple cultural awareness trainings over the region. Over the years he has driven many 4X4 tracks all over WA and completed 4X4 vehicle training every 5 years. He has obtained and maintained the below trainings & accreditations:
St Johns First Aid and CPR
Advanced Driver Training
Snake Handling Certificate
Coxwain Grade 3 Certificate
Working with Children Check
INFTA Accredited Nature Guide
Quality Tourism Accredited Business
Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business
DBCA Kimberley National Parks Operators Licence
Silent Tours sources sustainable wooden goods made locally from native wood that has either fallen over from wind or erosion, burnt, cracked, full of termite holes or just unwanted. Live trees or wood from National Parks are never taken
The Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi is described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. Native woods that others might overlook or discard because of imperfections are used and turned into memorable pieces
Wood turnings are available for sale to customers at the end of tours with 20% of the proceeds going to Kangaroo Haven
