Open until Christmas 2026 and February–April 2027

Discover a different side of the East Kimberley with Silent Tours during the Kimberley's spectacular wet season.

As the landscape transforms from dry savannah to lush vibrant green, waterfalls begin flowing, wildlife responds to the changing seasons, and the Kimberley's rivers and natural landscapes take on a new life.

Silent Tours is a locally owned and operated Kununurra tour business offering personalised experiences for small groups of up to four guests. Whether you're interested in waterfall photography, wildlife, scenic 4WD adventures or simply experiencing the natural beauty of the green season, we'll help you discover what's possible.

The wet season is a special time to experience the Kimberley away from the usual tourist crowds.

We recommend morning departures when temperatures are generally cooler and conditions can be more favourable for wildlife observation and outdoor activities.

All tours are planned around prevailing weather, road access and river conditions, with itineraries adjusted to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences.

Explore the East Kimberley During the Wet Season

The Kimberley doesn’t close because of the rain

While many other operators close down over the wet season it doesn't mean you can't see or do anything over the summer months. Arguably the most stunning time of year with lightning storms, epic waterfalls, and spectacular scenery, the wet season is like no other time of year.

Silent Tours offers personalised wet-season experiences from Kununurra, to let you experience what many never get to see.

Our small-group tours can include Ord River waterfall tours, scenic 4WD adventures, waterfall photography, wildlife observation, guided nature walks and opportunities to discover the Kimberley's changing landscapes.

With a maximum of four guests, we have the flexibility to adapt each experience to the weather conditions, road access, and your exploration interests.

Frequently Asked Wet Season Questions

Please reach us at relax@silenttours.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The wet season can commence as early as October or as late as December depending on when we receive the first 50mm of rain. It can continue through until April. Every year is different and just when you think it has finished, more late rain can surprise us all.

Silent Tours prioritises your comfort and safety. Weather conditions are monitored and guests will be notified if there are any changes to the tour. We can travel the river in moderate rain but will pull over and wait for heavy showers to pass. There are waterproof jackets kept onboard to allow you to experience the tropical conditions in comfort. Tours will not depart during active storms.

In some ways yes, but in many more ways no. We are the only Ord River guided tour cruise open over the wet season period. We specialise in quiet, nature based experiences allowing guests to walk, swim and enjoy waterfalls.

Silent Tour Ord River Boat Cruises depart from Lily Lagoon at Celebrity Tree Park Boat ramp.  Several accommodation properties are within a two-minute walk of the boat ramp .

Morning Tours can start as early as dawn and return after 4-5 hours.

There is some flexibility with departure times - we can leave at day break for those wishing to see more bird and wildlife.  When in Kununurra during the wet season, an Upper Ord River Cruise is spectacular!

We operate a 5.3-metre Quintrex bowrider — large enough to be comfortable, while small and manoeuvrable enough to explore lagoons, creeks and seasonal waterfalls. A modern Yamaha 130 hp four-stroke provides the main propulsion, while an Avator electric auxiliary outboard allows us to travel slowly and quietly through selected waterways. The electric motor reduces engine noise and allows us to spend more time observing natural wildlife behaviour while maintaining an appropriate distance. A full canopy provides shade from the Kimberley sun and can be lowered when conditions allow for unobstructed viewing and photography.

A hat, sunglasses, long sleeved shirt for sun protection, refillable water bottle, sand shoes that can get wet or sports sandals, day bag, swimwear & towel if you wish to swim and your preferred beverage to place in the esky. Please also bring any required medication, special foods, snacks, or other beverages you may prefer. A camera is optional but highly recommended

We provide waterproof rain jackets, binoculars, insect repellent, a light snack served with bush tea and plenty of extra cold drinking water to top up your water bottles.

Every Silent Tours cruise is a little different. Wildlife, weather, river conditions, the season and the interests of our guests help determine where we spend our time.

Departing from Celebrity Tree Park in Kununurra, possible locations include Lily Creek Lagoon, quieter sections of the Ord River, Emu Creek, Elephant Rock, Coolamon Creek and other waterways and gorges along the river.

Depending on conditions and the season, we may encounter freshwater crocodiles, birds of prey, waterbirds, wallabies and other East Kimberley wildlife. During the wet season, waterfalls can cascade from the surrounding escarpments directly towards the river.

The emphasis is on quality rather than distance travelled — slowing down where something magical is happening rather than racing from one landmark to another.
